Blue Jays and Unicorn Pillows

Volume 14 Issue 5, May 2017

What's New in May?

Feels like summer just snuck up on us and smacked us upside the head. The heat and humidity is already starting to creep up on us.

There are new ospreys in the nest, and they are very noisy. I don’t have any photos of them, but I saw their fuzziness poking over the edge of the nest the other day, and I hear them screaming for fish. I am only a block off of the river, so it is not unusual to see a fish flying overhead in the talons of the osprey. It’s not unusual to see a fish in the yard, too.

All of my yard birds are back and enjoying the bath and dinner that is served up daily in the yard. Saw a flock of spoonbills go over the other night, but I didn’t have my camera and it didn’t look like they landed in the pond next door. I think I will have to go up to the National Seashore and see them before it gets too hot.

Have been working on getting all of my excess jewelry supplies and clay together in order to put it up for sale.

Here’s one of my feeder friends.

She Was Born in July

When in Rome

The month of July is a tribute to Julius Caesar, and it was his birth month. Great leaderships come from the July month. It brings the hottest heat to the north and the coldest cold to the south, and it is the rainiest month with the most thunderstorms. It is a wild and extreme month. Dog days of summer live in this month. It can be a volatile month. Fireworks are right at home in this month.

The Personality:

She is fun to be with, and she is concerned for other's feelings. She is serious, and she takes a lot of pride in herself and her appearance. She is honest. She is deep and can be hard to read. She holds her feelings close, and she is sentimental. She is very witty. She is pragmatic. She appreciates beautiful things. She is hard working, and she excels easily. She is very tactful. She is friendly and has many friends. She is a caretaker, and she loves the moody moon. She is organized, and she does well in real estate.

She makes a great manager because she is organized. She might be a bit critical. She loves plants and tends to be a vegetarian. She loves to sing, perform or be involved in the arts. She is family oriented and loves her family. She is great in research, science and anything that brings her in contact with nature.

The sign:

Cancer and Leo: The crab and the lion.

The Stone:

july-rubyThe red ruby, like the red star Regulus in the heart of the constellation Leo, belongs to the July child. The brilliant red complements her outgoing personality, and she can wear it when she is on stage. The ruby is associated with dedication, confidence, courage and happiness. The ruby generates energy for the July babe.

The Flower:

july-larkspurThe laughter of the Larkspur belongs to the July baby. This pretty purple flower creates relaxed energy that the July child adores. The flower grows high in the mountains and has many little petals that make up each flower on the stem. It is a medicinal plant and is said to be able to keep witches out of the stables in Transylvania.

The Color:

Let's assume that red is the color of all July children. It is as powerful as the July girl is.

She Was Born in June

Halfway Child

The longest day is home in the month of June; a day that is the epitome of summer in the north and winter in the south. June offers us the bright sunshine, hot days and rainy seasons. The month is named after Juno, the Roman goddess of marriage and the spouse of Jupiter. Is it any wonder so many brides plan for a June wedding? June is a youthful month springing forth children that never grow up.

The Personality:

She is an intellectual, and she is hilarious. She has a quick wit, and she loves to make people laugh. She is free thinking. She is adaptable. She is a communicator. She would do well on the radio. She is youthful and has the need to have fun. She is ruled by quicksilver Mercury, and she is fleet on her feet. She has a need for security. She is overflowing with ideas that she cannot possibly capture. Her mind is active, and she is highly sensitive. She is impatient, temperamental and a procrastinator.

She is quiet and polite. She dreams, and she talks non-stop when she is comfortable. She is reclusive and stubborn. Her debating skills make her a great executive. She is curious and has an abundance of mental energy. She gets bored easily. She is great in real estate or food. She is a great speaker and makes an interesting author.

The sign:

Gemini and Cancer: The twins and the crab.

The Stone:

june-pearlThe June child wants more than one. She claims the pearl, the moonstone and the alexandrite. The pearl denotes purity, modesty and chastity. The pearl is said to enhance integrity. The alexandrite is a chameleon as it turns green in natural light, but an incandescent light will cause it to turn purple. The opulence of a moonstone offers the June child shimmery glamour.

The Flower:

june-roseThe June baby is represented by the rose. Not just any rose, but ALL the roses. She is happy with pink, red, yellow, white, peach, burgundy and any other color in between. Each color represents something for her. The rose is revered worldwide, and she enjoys all the roses in her month. Even the blue rose represents mystery to her.

The Color:

The green of awaking and the yellow of enthusiasm belong to the June girl.

She Was Born in May

Fertile Minds

Named for the goddess Maia, the month of May is a month of fertility and new birth. Unlike April, which bursts forth, May comes wandering in with gentleness and kindness. May is the month of maturity when things come to pass. May is loaded with holidays, both traditional and new ones that give almost every day on the calendar special significance. Between festivals, feasts, gatherings and celebrations, May is well into spring in the north and pushing autumn in the south. It is the between state of birth and death.

The Personality:

She is anything but weak. She is strong-willed and a bit stubborn. She digs in and stays true to her course. She is motivated beyond most and knows how to achieve her goals. She is extremely mentally agile. She is beautiful and surrounds herself with beautiful things and people. She is attractive to all, and she loves all the attention. She is determined. She is filled with imagination, spirit, creativity and loves the arts and literature. She is very intuitive.

She has the need to travel. She is an explorer and adventurer. She saves all her money, and she is really good in a debate. She is an excellent politician, writer, painter, artist, designer, teacher and banker. Her systematic way of doing things makes her great in any job that requires details.

The sign:

Taurus and Gemini: The bull and the twins.

may-emeraldThe Stone:

The May child is given the emerald as her stone. It represents loyalty, memory and faith. The emerald is said to enhance memory. As things are changing, growing and the grass is beginning to green up, it is only natural that the stone of the May babe would also represent those new beginnings.

may-lilyThe Flower:

The Lily of the Valley is the flower that the May child clutches in her fists. It is pure, majestic and represents humility, beauty and sweetness. The scent of the Lily of the Valley is distinct and a favored perfume.

In addition to the Lily of the Valley, the May child claims all the lilies as hers. They are representative of the new earth, and they return every year. These large and showy flowers come in an array of brilliant colors like the May babe.

The Color:

The color green is associated with the May girl, but her personality can call for other earth tones to be her favorite.
