2014 and French Dip Sandwiches

What's New in January?

 

We turn 10 years old this year. It seems like we just started this adventure yesterday,

but the calendar says that we have been rolling canes and beads for over 10 years.

Amazing how fast time flies when you are busy trying to perfect your techniques

and learn a lot of new ones along the way.

 

Speaking of learning a new trick; I found this awesome new way to bake a roast. I

am a big fan of shaved roast beef sandwiches and anything that is served with

warm au jus. I tried to pick up a rump roast for Christmas dinner and discovered

that they only had sirloin tip roasts left, so I got one and figured I would look up a

recipe for baking when needed. I love to look up recipes!

 

In my search, I found this baking technique that looked too good to be true. My

roast was only 1 and a half pounds, but I had set aside an hour or so for baking.

This recipe is as follows:

1—Season the roast to taste, which includes basting, meat rubs, salt and pepper or

whatever you want on the meat. Put in pan that has been lined with foil.

2—Preheat the oven to 500 degrees. Yes, 500 degrees.

3—Bake the roast  10 minutes per pound for medium rare, 11 minutes for each

pound for medium to medium well and 12 minutes for each pound for medium

well to well.

4– Turn off oven, but DO NOT remove the roast. Continue leaving the roast in the

oven for the same times. I baked 11 minutes per pound for 16 minutes and then

turned the oven off and left it sit in there another 16 minutes.

5– Slice and serve like restaurant roast beef.

 

It was amazing and now I do not have to go out for those yummy French dip sandwiches that I love. It would be great on a  New Year’s Eve party menu.

Thumbtacks! We found these were a fun way to decorate bulletin and cork boards everywhere, so we went silly creating these fun pushpins. Of course,

I have lots of designs to create for future thumbtacks.

 

Canes! I am planning my clay cane production for the new year, and I am

looking forward to playing with new techniques and designs.
