When Kittens Sing

This purrfectly purred Christmas song was delivered by none other than THEE Catwoman. It was not only suggestive, it was a compilation of a wish list for Santa that included toys and trinkets like yachts, sables and a few decorations from Tiffany.
It was penned by the niece of Senator Jacob Javire in 1953 and quickly went gold.
While it has been redone over the years by the likes of Madonna and Gwen Stefani, no one can take this sexy, jazzy song from its rightful owner: Eartha Kitt.

Here are more things that will make you purr in delight as you shop from our list of wonderfully handmade goodies.

Halloween and Fat Puppies

Volume 15 Issue 10, October 2018

What's New in October?

We are once again going to be at the Indian River Mall for the H.A.L.O. no-kill shelter arts and crafts show on October 6th between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., so if you are in our area, stop by the mall and see our beads in person.

In other news, the flowers are all starting to go to seed, and my feeder is empty of occupants with the exception of the mourning doves and the woodpeckers, who seem to be able to eat six times their weight.

Harry is growing in spurts and bounds, and he is starting to do a lot of exploration. He has to go to puppy school soon.

There has been a mad rush of creation as we try to get ready for the winter and holiday shopping season. Lots of projects that have been sitting are now in progress like Halloween leggings.

In the meantime, enjoy a fat puppy picture.

It’s Over … If You Want It

As we enter into our annual sing-along, please note that over the last three or four years, we have traveled around the world and learned about the origins of most of our traditional songs. It is now time to focus on the more present day Christmas tunes.

This contemporary Christmas song was released in 1971 and featured the Harlem Community Choir made up of 4- to 12-year-olds as backup. It was set to the tune of a traditional English ballad by the title of Skewball, which had been interpreted by the likes of Woody Guthrie and offered as a call and response chain gang song recorded by Lead Belly. It was originally written as a cowboy waltz.

This tune was co-opted by John & Yoko Plastic Ono band where John wrote new lyrics and Yoko added nothing to the song but her name. It debuted as a single in 1971 in the U.S. and in November of 1972 in the U.K. where it went to #4 on the charts.

This was Lennon’s seventh release outside of the Beatles.

This Vietnam protest song has become a Christmas standard and has been covered by other artists, including Andy Williams, Neil Diamond and Sarah McLaughlin.

John and Yoko capped off their year of peace activism with this song, and it was launched with billboards paid for by the Lennons in 12 cities that simply said:

War is Over … If you want it. – Happy Christmas from John & Yoko.

With the sound of hope and promise, we begin the 2018 Countdown to Christmas, and here are a number of other things that bring the promise of squeals of delight and the hope that these gifts will be in your Christmas stocking.

Art Shows and Hot Days Ahead

Volume 15 Issue 8, August 2018

Now that it’s hot out, it’s time to move inside and stay out of the oppressive heat and humidity. One of the things we have planned for this month is a show in the Indian River Mall in Vero Beach, FL. It is a monthly artisan show that benefits our No-Kill Shelter: H.A.L.O. and we do try to do a lot to help support them. They were the ones who cut Blu’s hair and let him stay overnight with them when we went on vacation. They also were the ones who we donated a lot of things to when we lost him, so we are very happy to participate in their show. They have a shop in the mall where they adopt out cats, and they can use all of the support they can get.

In addition to my regular beads and such, I am taking one piece of photography that I got printed for the show. It is of the local inlet during the week we got back from Montana, so it was cold and windy. All of the birds were lined up facing the wind.
