Green with Envy

Who wouldn’t be just green with envy when they take a look at these magnificent gemstones all sporting the green of money. The word green means “grow” as in grass and is filled with the promise of youth and energy. When applied to envy and jealousy, we can thank Shakespeare for the green-eyed monster as described in The Merchant of Venice. Now, it is aligned with money and prosperity.

Green Diamonds

Just like the red diamonds we talked about last week, these are also very rare. However, you have a better chance of finding a green diamond than a red one. The diamond is a gemstone associated with the April baby.

Green Garnet

Another more traditionally red gemstone, the green garnet is one of those unusual finds. They are part of the andradite species and can be narrowed down even further to the demantoid, which happens to be one of the most expensive garnet. The garnet is a birthstone for January and associated with Aquarius.

Green Garnet

Green Tourmaline

The most common tourmaline that we see is the watermelon stone, but a truly green stone like the chrome tourmaline is a deep rich green that is almost reminiscent of the
Emerald City in The Wizard of Oz.

Green Tourmaline

Peridot

The gemstone peridot is derived from the olivine mineral. It only  comes in green, but it can have a variety of shades of green. It has a luster and is the August birthstone.

Green Idocrase

In addition to these hard to find stones, we have the ever popular jades, emeralds, jaspers, agates and turquoise for our jewelry designs.

There is no reason to be jealous when you can own these beautiful greens for yourself. Buy them today!

Who Has Time for the Blues?

I do! While there may be a slight correlation between being sad and being blue, there is nothing sad about having blue in your jewelry. In fact, blue kisses up to royalty and is a favored color for forward thinking and anything modern. It is calming and trustworthy. That is why so many banks use blue in their logos and marketing material.

Here are some regal ways to add blue to your designs.

Sapphire

This is probably the first stone that you think of when you think of a blue gemstone. It is the ultimate blue stone and is one of the four stones in the world considered precious. It is as hard as a diamond and the birthstone of September.
Blue Sapphire

Blue Opal

In between the most common white opal and the most expensive black opal lies the pretty blue opal. It is a modern October gemstone and filled with fiery color. It is associated with Libra babies.

Blue Opal

Aquamarine

This gemstone gets its name from its ocean blues and teals. It is a  March birthstone and associated with Scorpios even though they are not March babies.
Aquamarine

In addition to these pretty blues, other blues include kyanite, labradorite, sunstone, lapis lazuli, sodalite and aventurine. Of course, there are many other blue stones that are found in jewelry, but like these stones, anytime that you add blue to your design, you are adding a calming and regal stone.

Here are some things that will not give you the blues. In fact, they will make you quite happy, so buy them all now!

Red is for Passion

Red is such a passionate color. It is filled with fire and heat. It  makes a statement no matter where it is used, and as a color in a piece of jewelry, it demands attention. Lucky for us, there are a number of red gemstones that can add fire and passion to our designs.

Red Diamonds - Yes, there are some really red diamonds! Of course, it is very rare and not something that you see in normal jewelry.

Red Diamond

Red Beryl - Usually found in Utah or New Mexico, this red stone is another rare piece of gem. In case you are interested, Beryl is the gemstone of the sign of Scorpio.

Red Beryl

Ruby - Another gemstone, but much more commonly found is graded on the depth of its red color. It is the birthstone of Capricorn and December babies. It is also associated with those born in July.

Ruby

Carnelian - A favorite of those who like to work with chalcedony stones. Carnelian is a soft rock and is associated with August babies.

Of course, red is also found in jasper, agates and other more common gems and stones.

Give Mom something red for Mother’s Day this year. Here are some awesome reds for your shopping pleasure:

Painted Buntings and New Books

Volume 18 Issue 3, March 2021

What's New in March?

At the time of this writing, there is a disaster happening in Texas. I have friends there, so my concern is with them and all the folks I don’t know. I suspect that it’s going to be some time before they get things squared away, so if you can, send money to Red Cross or your choice of emergency assistance.

The biggest news for March should be the fact that I am finalizing a book on jewelry design that I have been working on for over four years. Lots of things got in the way as I tried to finish it up, but it’s finally in it’s last edit and will be off to an editor by the first week of March. Or so I hope!

In January, two of my books hit paperback, so it’s been a busy 2021 already. Read for free with Kindle Unlimited.

Other than that, I have spent time working putting in flower boxes filled with bright red geraniums and am on the hunt for purple hanging petunias like I had last year. They seem to be elusive this year. I can find all of the pink ones I want, but I prefer purple.

My bird feeder has been really busy this year, including a pair of painted buntings that have found something they like in the feeder.
